In 2008, David and Tris Sheen, along with their 8-year-old son Kai and 6-year-old daughter Dior, arrived in Tonga, South Pacific, after sailing from New York, en-route to New Zealand.
Here they purchased an existing swim-with-Humpback-whale business. Read the full story in the Our Story page, or even better, purchase Tris’s stunning photographic books.
“I first became fascinated by whales at 15, when I had a close encounter with a Southern right whale in my hometown. Since then, I’ve swum with as many whales as I could, the chance to buy a business swimming with whales was an exhilarating opportunity to get to know them more. For three months every year, I get the extraordinary opportunity to photograph and be with Humpback whales. I hardly ever enter the water without my camera – just in case. My love for animals and their behaviour is something I share with my husband, and our approach to these magnificent creatures reflects that. He’s the best skipper, always watching out for me as I swim with – or without – guests in the vast ocean alongside these incredible beings, the whales. I’m deeply grateful.”
